$449 $628.40
Handcrafted in Tamgroute, a small town in southern Morocco near the Sahara (its name means 'last place before the desert'), these exquisite plates embody the rich artistic traditions of the region.

The distinctive green glaze on Tamgroute pottery is meticulously crafted using locally sourced copper oxide found in the area. The glaze consists of 80% manganese, 19% silicon, and 1% copper. It is the 1% copper, combined with the clay sourced from the Draa river-bed, that precisely forms the characteristic green color. The process involves applying this unique glaze onto the ceramic vessel, followed by firing it in a kiln. During the firing process, a spectrum of colors emerges, ranging from bright green to deep olive green, influenced by the temperature and duration of firing.

Adding to the allure of these plates, they are adorned with intricately carved silver-plated copper and bones. The white elements are crafted from camel bone, while the brown features are created using camel bone dyed with henna. Notably, the carved silver-plated copper and bones are made in the High Atlas, contributing to the unique fusion of traditional Moroccan craftsmanship.

These beautifully handmade plates not only showcase the classic vibrant green hues but also represent a harmonious collaboration between the pottery expertise of Tamgroute and the skilled artisans in the High Atlas. They provide a wonderful way to present Moroccan cuisine or other dishes and make for a distinctive addition to your kitchen decor.
